Context

During my first year at ISART Digital Paris, I spent two months developing S.T.A.I.R.S. I worked on all aspects of the game design, visuals, coding, and sound design for this project.

My Work

● I coded using visual scripting in Unity. The challenge of this game was to make it work using only one button (the spacebar). I had to think about how to make the player enjoy the game with just one button, while also figuring out how to navigate the menus.

I learned how to use Cinemachine in Unity in order to create a more cinematic and immersive experience. With Cinemachine, I was able to combine player camera control, the constraints of a one-button game, and smooth camera transitions to enhance the game feel.

● How did I do it? When the character moves, it activates a camera that looks in the direction of the movement vector and smoothly transitions between cameras, making the player feel fully immersed.

● I also worked extensively on the VFX, UI, and sound design of my game, as they are very important for the overall experience. I started by adding a minimalistic UI to match the style of a horror game. I also created a camera visual effect to enhance the realism of the narrative design.

In terms of sound design, I composed the game’s soundtrack and added various sound effects to make the experience more immersive. Breathing sounds, footsteps, crackling lights, and walkie-talkie effects were combined with music featuring bass and distortion.

● For the VFX, I spent a lot of time on the environmental visuals. I focused on the lighting of the stairs, combining it with the texturing of the walls and stairs. Regarding texturing, I modeled and textured the stairs myself in Blender.
